Treatment for Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) causes pain and swelling of the joints; it usually occurs in people with Psoriasis. The skin changes of psoriatic arthritis usually occur before the joints, but both symptoms may appear at the same time. Psoriatic Arthritis symptoms include pain and swelling in one or more joints usually the wrists, knees, ankles, or at the ends of fingers. Swelling of fingers (making them appear ‘sausage-like’), low back or buttock pain, silver or gray dry, scaly spots on elbows or knees, or pitting of fingernails and/or toenails are also possible. PsA leads to asymmetrical deformities of the joints affected. Psoriatic Arthritis diagnosis includes a physical exam and may include X-rays, blood tests, and joint fluid tests to rule out gout or infectious arthritis.
